Rainy Day Photography
When the clouds come in and the rain starts it’s all too easy to cancel any photography plans and do something else. Perhaps this is an aversion to being out in horrible weather, or a belief that you need good weather to take good pictures; I tend to think it’s the former.
I set out for a day in London with bad weather, determined to make the point that bad weather does not have to mean bad photos. It remained overcast all day with periodic rain. The light proved to be quite amiable to long exposure black and white shots.
It’s also worth noting that bad weather frequently comes before some of the best light for photography. Those shots you see of the sun breaking through clouds over the ocean are usually a sign that a photographer has been sat there getting soaked by the rain for an hour waiting for a break in the clouds.
